Stop the Rio Sick Cuts

Rio is planning to cut sick leave entitlements in its WA Iron Ore division from 3 months to just 12 days – a 70% reduction in entitlements and barely above the minimum mandatory entitlements in the NES.

This is a slap in the face for thousands of workers who have accepted a trade-off of lower wages for better conditions and other policy entitlements. Iron ore workers make billions in profits for Rio management, so why are they having their sick leave squeezed?

WMWA is the biggest Union in Pilbara, and we won’t be standing by watching whilst thousands of our members have their employment conditions cut.

It’s time to send a message to Rio – workers will not stand by and let the bosses slash their entitlements without a fight.
